China has created more than 64 million new jobs for urban residents since 2011, topping the government target of 45 million for the five-year period, an official said Monday.

Yin Weimin, head of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, said at a meeting that the number of new jobs created annually has topped 12 million for five years in a row.

The government aimed to hold the registered urban unemployment rate below 5 percent between 2011 and 2015. From 2011 till now, the unemployment rate stood at about 4.1 percent, Yin said. For 2015, China aims to create at least 10 million new jobs and hold a registered unemployment rate below 4.5 percent.

China created 10.66 million new jobs in the first three quarters and the unemployment rate was 4.05 percent at the end of September, data showed.
