China's Hong Kong looks forward to even closer cooperation with Indonesia on government, economic, cultural and community levels, Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said here on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a trade and service expo organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Leung said Hong Kong and Indonesia have a long and mutually rewarding history and the bilateral relations will continue to grow and flourish.

Hailing Indonesian government's approval on the establishment of a Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta, Leung said Hong Kong takes Indonesia as an important partner.

Leung said the new office is expected to help bring the mutual beneficial relations of Hong Kong-ASEAN and Hong Kong-Indonesia to new heights.

Bilateral merchandise trade exceeded 5 billion U.S. dollars last year, up nearly 2 percent over the previous year, while bilateral services trade in 2014 totaled 1.4 billion dollars, up 7 percent, according to Leung.

Leung noted that Hong Kong is the gateway for global business to Chinese mainland markets and serves as the "super-connector" between the Chinese mainland and the world.

Titled "In Style, Hong Kong," the three-day mega expo will showcase Hong Kong's lifestyle products and international business services.
