Guangzhou Port's annual cargo throughput is expected to reach 550 million tonnes by 2017, according to Chinanews.com quoting the local Three-year Action Plan for Maritime Silk Road Construction released by Cai Chaolin, deputy mayor of Guangzhou on Monday.
Cai said that container throughput of Guangzhou will be 20 million TEU (20-feet Equivalent Unit) by 2017. The port will invest 15 billion yuan to add 20 international lines and 20 feed or inland harbors, while the annual output value of ocean engineering equipment will reach 30 billion yuan.
The city government will deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, jointly explore international shipping market and promote cross-border E-commerce business in bonded areas of the port.
According to Cai, 2015 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo will open on October 30 in Guangzhou.
