Beijing has removed some of its non-capital functions, freeing up construction area of 7.03 million square meters in the city's six core districts this year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.
The six districts of Xicheng, Dongcheng, Chaoyang, Fengtai, Haidian, and Shijingshan will strengthen their efforts to phase out more non-capital functions in the next five years.
The downtown Xicheng district will renovate a group of historical buildings and streets. Dongcheng district will accelerate the relocation of wholesale markets and increase green space and public service facilities.
Non-capital functions, including manufacturing, logistics, and wholesale markets, are gradually being phased out to ease Beijing's "urban diseases," the municipal government said.
