The revenue of Taiwan's manufacturing sector expanded for the seventh consecutive quarter in the second three months of the year, the island's economic authority said.

Total sales for the second quarter were 6.6 trillion new Taiwan dollars (about 214.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 6.6 percent from a year earlier.

The combined sales of the first two quarters were about 12.9 trillion new Taiwan dollars, up 3.6 percent year on year.

The performance was mainly driven by traditional industries, as raw material pushed up prices of related products, while the revenue for computers, electronics, and optical products dropped 1.9 percent year on year.

The authority said the growth in revenue was expected to continue in the third quarter.
