Macao's business performance improves in August

The business performance of restaurants and retail trade in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) showed an improvement in August, the SAR's statistics service has said.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated on Wednesday that there were 52 percent of the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments reporting a year-on-year growth in receipts, up by 13 percentage points from July.

On the other hand, the proportion of interviewed establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts went down by 4 percentage points from July to 31 percent.

As regards retail trade, there were 69 percent of the interviewed retailers reporting a year-on-year sales increase in August, up by 6 percentage points from July.

The interviewed restaurants and retailers expected their business to weaken slightly in September after the summer holidays.
