The Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong welcomes the Outline Development Plan for the Greater Bay Area announced last night and acknowledges the significant role that Hong Kong can play within the GBA.
Jacinta Reddan, Chief Executive of the chamber commented after the release of the report and urged Australian businesses to be part of this new multi-city hub: "We are delighted to see that Hong Kong's strength's have been identified in the plan, being international finance, trade, transportation and international aviation as well as being the offshore RMB hub. This will enable Hong Kong to play to its strengths and to be able to play a major role in this important initiative. This will achieve economic growth for the city and the wider Greater Bay which will ultimately also create opportunities for Australian companies operating in Hong Kong as well as Australian companies wanting to undertake business within the Greater Bay Area”.
“We are particularly excited about the focus on new areas of growth for Hong Kong and the continued diversification of its economy. Hong Kong has a rich history of adapting and thriving, and we believe Australian business, expertise, ingenuity and investment can play an important part in this vision.”
AustCham Hong Kong has been active in promoting the benefits of the Greater Bay Area to its members through the formation of a Greater Bay Area committee in January 2018. The chamber published a report in conjunction with KPMG last year titled "Connecting Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area" which was released in Hong Kong and Australia. The chamber will continue to work with its members to identify opportunities and to encourage members to position their businesses for the opportunities that will flow from a strong bay area.
