TIANJIN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The economy of north China's Tianjin Municipality grew by 4.5 percent in the first quater of 2019, a 2.6 percentage points rise compared with the same period last year, according to local authorities.
The city's GDP reached 519.9 billion yuan (77.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the period, according to the municipal bureau of statistics.
The output of new energy vehicles increased over 22-fold, and that of service robots, industrial robots and lithium-ion batteries grew by 47.2, 25 and 2.9 percent respectively.
The port city also registered foreign trade volume of 323.3 billion yuan in the first quater, up by 5.6 percent compared with the same period last year.
Tianjin's GDP grew by 3.6 percent in 2018. It set an economic growth target of 4.5 percent in 2019.
