HONG KONG, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced on Wednesday that the National Day fireworks display has been cancelled.
The HKSAR government said the fireworks display was originally scheduled for the evening of Oct. 1 and the decision to cancel it was made in view of the latest situation and having regard to public safety.
The National Day fireworks display has been held since 1997 by the HKSAR government to mark the founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China. It was cancelled twice in 2013, 2014 respectively.
