TAIPEI, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's industrial production index for the first 11 months dropped 0.87 percent year on year, according to the island's economic affairs authority Monday.

The index stood at 107.73 points for the January-November period while the base value of the index was set at 100 based on industrial production in 2016, according to a press release from the department.

The sub-reading for manufacturing in the first 11 months, the largest component of the index, dropped 0.97 percent year on year, while that for mining and quarrying fell 4.11 percent.

The industrial production index for November stood at 114.24, up 0.33 percent from October and 2.15 percent year on year, largely due to the rising sub-reading for manufacturing, which increased by 0.97 percent from October and 2.29 percent year on year.

The department attributed the positive performance of manufacturing in November to the booming business of integrated circuits, computers and optical products.

However, the sub-index for electricity and gas supply in November decreased by 8.1 percent from October and that for water supply was down 1.9 percent monthly.
