The total value of Macao's merchandise import held stable at 90.13 billion patacas last year as compared with that of 2018, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics service said on Friday.
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that imports of beauty, cosmetic and skin-care products went up by 44.2 percent whereas imports of mobile phones slid by 29.0 percent.
Merchandise trade deficit totalled 77.33 billion patacas in 2019, a decrease of 577 million patacas as compared with that of 2018.
By place of origin, merchandise import from the Chinese mainland (30.65 billion patacas) decreased by 2.8 percent year-on-year in 2019. Meanwhile, imports from the European Union (24.92 billion patacas), countries and regions along the the Belt and Road Initiative (15.97 billion patacas) and the Portuguese-speaking countries (844 million patacas) increased by 10.6 percent, 122.3 percent and 6.9 percent respectively.
External merchandise trade totalled 102.93 billion patacas in 2019, up by 0.6 percent as compared with that of 2018. (One U.S. dollar equals to 8.0 patacas)
