URUMQI, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will channel over 7.56 billion yuan (about 1.07 billion U.S. dollars) this year, up 36.8 percent from 2019, to upgrade and construct the power grid in its rural areas.

The figure includes 3.2 billion yuan from the central government, an annual growth of 23 percent, said the regional development and reform commission.

The money will be spent on 3,067 power grid upgrade and construction projects in 87 county-level regions.

To address problems like low voltage and insufficient supply, since 2016, Xinjiang has invested a total of about 22.6 billion yuan in the upgrading of rural power networks across the region.
