MACAO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Macao's visitor arrivals in March plunged by 93.7 percent year-on-year to 212,311, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics service said on Tuesday.
Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the same-day visitors (86,415) and overnight visitors (125,896) tumbled by 95.2 percent and 92.0 percent respectively in March. The average length of stay of visitors went up by 1.8 days year-on-year to 3.0 days.
Visitor arrivals from the mainland plummeted by 96.3 percent to 88,890, with those travelling under the individual visit scheme (6,813) shrinking by 99.4 percent. Visitors from the Hong Kong SAR (111,347) receded by 81.5 percent.
Analysed by checkpoint, visitor arrivals by land fell by 91.9 percent year-on-year to 203,238 in March, with those arriving via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (109,979) and those through the Border Gate (80,191) reducing by 78.2 percent and 95.5 percent respectively.
In the first quarter of 2020, visitor arrivals to Macao totalled 3,219,170, a drop of 68.9 percent year-on-year.
