MACAO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The number of visitor arrivals to Macao decreased by 83.9 percent year-on-year to 3,268,900 in the first half of 2020, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistic service said here on Monday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that in the first half of 2020, the same-day visitors (1,723,218) and the overnight visitors (1,545,682) declined by 84.0 percent and 83.7 percent respectively.
The visitors' average length of stay went up by 0.3 day year-on-year to 1.4 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.7 days) rising by 0.5 day, while that of same-day visitors (0.2 day) staying unchanged.
In the first half of 2020, visitors from the mainland (2,339,589), Hong Kong SAR (652,522) and the Taiwan region (81,628) recorded decreases of more than 80 percent.
The DSEC report also mentioned that there were 22,556 visitor arrivals in June 2020, a decline of more than 90 percent year-on-year. The same-day visitors and the overnight visitors totaled 13,205 and 9,351 respectively.
The visitors' average length of stay extended by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.4 days in June, and the duration for the overnight visitors (5.6 days) increased by 3.4 days, whereas that for the same-day visitors (0.1 day) went down by 0.1 day.
In terms of source of visitors, the number of mainland visitors fell by 99.0 percent year-on-year to 21,067, accounting for 93.4 percent of all visitors in June. Meanwhile, there were 1,142 visitors from the Hong Kong SAR and 326 from the Taiwan region.
