Macao's merchandise trade continues to rise in November

MACAO, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Macao's total merchandise import went up by 18.2 percent year on year to 15.62 billion patacas (about 1.94 billion U.S. dollars) in November 2021, while total merchandise export amounted to 1.19 billion patacas, up by 24.2 percent year on year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistical service said on Friday.

The latest report from Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that imports of electronic components, mobile phones and handbags and wallets surged by 89.0 percent, 73.6 percent and 53.0 percent respectively, whereas imports of motor cars and motorcycles and beauty, cosmetic and skincare products declined by 31.4 percent and 11.7 percent respectively.

The value of re-exports grew 23.3 percent to 996 million patacas in November, with that of articles for casino and beauty, cosmetic and skincare products jumping by 3,234.1 percent and 140.8 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the value of domestic exports increased by 28.9 percent to 189 million patacas, the DSEC added.

The merchandise trade deficit in November totaled 14.44 billion patacas.

From January to November this year, the total value of merchandise import expanded by 72.9 percent year on year to 139.27 billion patacas, whereas the total value of merchandise export increased by 24.3 percent year on year to 11.94 billion patacas.

The merchandise trade deficit totaled 127.33 billion patacas in the first 11 months of 2021, up by 56.39 billion patacas from a year earlier.

Analyzed by place of origin, merchandise import from the European Union (EU) and the Chinese mainland in the first 11 months surged by 84.1 percent and 85.0 percent year on year to 44.74 billion patacas and 43.97 billion patacas respectively.

Analyzed by destination, merchandise export to the mainland rose by 15.3 percent year on year to 1.70 billion patacas during the period from January to November 2021. Exports to the Hong Kong SAR, the United States and the EU grew by 27.8 percent, 28.6 percent and 3.6 percent year on year respectively.

External merchandise trade totaled 151.21 billion patacas during the period from January to November 2021, up by 67.7 percent from a year earlier. (1 pataca equals 0.1245 USD)
