NANJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- East China's Jiangsu Province handled 534 China-Europe and China-Asia freight train trips in the first quarter of 2022, up 71.2 percent year on year, according to Jiangsu International Rail Freight Express Co., Ltd.
In the first three months of 2022, the number of outbound freight train trips from Jiangsu grew by 29.3 percent year on year to 349, while the number of inbound trips saw a robust year-on-year increase of 343.2 percent to reach 185.
Influenced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict and ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks, the number of China-Europe freight train trips departing from Jiangsu fell sharply in March. Conversely, the number of freight trains linking Jiangsu with countries in Central Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) came to 205 in March, contributing to the overall growth of freight train services.
In the first quarter, the province also launched two new freight train routes, linking Suzhou, a major economic hub of Jiangsu, with Milan, Italy and Vientiane, Laos.
