HONG KONG, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The value of total retail sales in Hong Kong in February increased by 31.3 percent compared with the same month in 2022, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced on Friday.

The provisional estimate of the value of total retail sales in February was 33.1 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 4.21 billion U.S. dollars).

A spokesman for the HKSAR government said that the value of total retail sales surged in February over a year earlier alongside the continued improvement in consumer sentiment and the sharp rebound in visitor arrivals. The low base of comparison last year also contributed.

Looking ahead, the spokesman pointed out that the retail sector's performance will continue to benefit from the recovery of private consumption and inbound tourism.
