China and the UK should enhance cooperation on smart city construction given their solid basis and broad prospect for cooperation, reported Xinhua-run cnstock.com citing Miao Wei, minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) Tuesday.

Miao expressed the will on the 7th China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue, saying that the two sides could start from sectors such as unmanned vehicles, big data, cloud computing and the "Internet plus" to expand and deepen cooperation in this regard.

As Miao held, China, when implementing the "Made in China 2025" and the "Internet plus" would determinedly push forward open-up, forge cooperation of various levels and in various fields to support mutual cooperation. Miao thus made three suggestions.

First of all, the two countries could strengthen cooperation brought by respective economic plans including China's "Belt and Road" initiative, "Made in China 2025" and the "Internet plus" as well as the UK's Northern Powerhouse and European investment plan so as to facilitate their cooperation or cooperation in markets of third parties.

Secondly, cooperation in China's seven strategic emerging industries and the UK's eight great technologies and industries could be started to boost Chinese and UK companies to cooperate in concrete programs.

Thirdly, the present cooperation mechanism and platforms between MIIT and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills of UK could be further optimized to deepen enterprises' cooperation in intelligent manufacturing, the Internet of things, the Internet of vehicles, smart city, 4G mobile communication, new materials, and new energy auto sectors.
