Latvian ministers at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday endorsed a plan by the Transport Ministry for cooperation with China in logistics and transport as part of the 16+1 initiative.
Under the plan, Latvia intends to offer to coordinate the sphere of transport and logistics in the 16+1 format, which provides for cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) states, as well as to host a meeting of 16+1 transport ministers in the first half of 2016. To become the coordinator of transport and logistics cooperation in 16+1, Latvia needs approval from China and other cooperation partners.
The Latvian Foreign Ministry will work out by Nov. 1 a lobbying plan to position Latvia as the coordinator of transport and logistics cooperation in 16+1 and for Latvia's general position on the Belt and Road Initiative.
