The Chinese mainland's trade with Hong Kong in January reached 24.39 billion U.S. dollars, up 1.1 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Friday.

That accounted for 8.4 percent of the mainland's total overseas trade last month, MOC figures showed. The mainland's exports to Hong Kong hit 22.74 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of 2.6 percent year on year, while the mainland's imports from the region more than doubled to 1.65 billion U.S. dollars. Hong Kong is the mainland's fourth-largest trade partner and third-largest export market.

The mainland approved 936 Hong Kong-invested projects in January, with the actual use of Hong Kong capital hitting 6.48 billion U.S. dollars, down 40.7 percent from the same period last year. As of the end of January, 387,149 Hong Kong-invested projects had been approved by mainland authorities.
