The Chinese mainland highly values and will create favorable conditions for Taiwan businesses to develop here, top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng said.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks on Monday while meeting with delegates to the members' congress of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland (ATIEM).
Yu praised Taiwan businesspeople and lauded the association's contribution to the mainland's economic and social development as well as the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
According to Yu, mainland Taiwan-related policies and measures are clear and consistent, and they will not be affected by the island's political situation. Yu stressed that the mainland will stick to the 1992 Consensus, with its core implication that both sides belong to one China, and strive to safeguard cross-Strait relations' current status of peaceful development and continue to deepen exchanges in various fields and boost cross-Strait joint development.
Yu expressed his hope that Taiwan businesspeople will continue to push forward cross-Strait relations, deepen economic cooperation and increase the benefits for people from both sides. The two-day congress ended on Monday with Wang Ping-Sheng elected as ATIEM chairman.
Wang said on Monday that the association will continue to serve Taiwan businesspeople who want to explore opportunities on the mainland. At the congress, Zhang Zhijun, head of the mainland-based Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, urged ATIEM to play a "core force" in safeguarding the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
Zhang said that the office will aid Taiwan companies that want to participate in the Belt and Road initiative and protect Taiwan businessmen's legal interests in the mainland.
