Chinese official urges more int'l cooperation to spur global economy

The international community should strengthen coordination and cooperation to create new economic growth points amid the sluggish global economic recovery, a senior Chinese official said here Friday.

Chen Yuan, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during the 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Addressing a sub-forum with the theme of "Financing Growth, Trade and Investment," Chen said China is willing to work with Russia and other countries to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and finance so as to put world economy on a stable growth track.

He also met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, and the two exchanged views on cooperation in such fields as education, health care and sports as well as sub-regional cooperation.

Chen said that China and Russia have carried out extensive culture and humanities cooperation which yielded fruitful results. China, he said, is ready to work with Russia to further deepen the friendship of the two peoples.

Chen also discussed with Russian officials and entrepreneurs about how to expand bilateral economic cooperation.
