Mainland-HK trade drops 7.6 pct in first 10 months

The Chinese mainland's trade with Hong Kong totaled 245 billion U.S. dollars in the first ten months of 2016, down 7.6 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The value accounted for 8.2 percent of the mainland's total overseas trade in the first ten months.

Mainland exports to Hong Kong hit 230 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of 7.9 percent year on year, while the mainland's imports from the region saw a sharp increase of 76.8 percent to 15.3 billion U.S. dollars.

Hong Kong is the mainland's fourth-largest trading partner and third-largest export market, according to the ministry.

The mainland approved 10,539 Hong Kong-invested projects from January to October this year, with the actual use of Hong Kong capital reaching 66 billion U.S. dollars, down 7.5 percent from the same period of last year.
