GUANGZHOU, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Foreign trade in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, totaled about 456.14 billion yuan (about 66.18 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year, up 1.2 percent year on year, the city government said Monday.
During the period, the city's imports of mechanical and electrical products reached 112.8 billion yuan, up 31.6 percent, accounting for 51.5 percent of the total imports.
Imports of high-tech products reached 73.79 billion yuan, up 46.9 percent, which occupied about 33.7 percent of the total imports. Imported consumer goods totaled 34.28 billion yuan, up 31.8 percent.
From January to June, the city's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports recorded 16.72 billion yuan, up 50.4 percent. The exports in the sector reached 5.13 billion yuan, a threefold increase, while imports reached 11.59 billion yuan, up 18.3 percent.
Guangzhou has reversed the downward trend of foreign trade with a series of policies launched, including expanding the overseas marketing network of its enterprises, strengthening cooperation in international exhibitions, and supporting new business models of foreign trade, according to Cai Qiliang, chief of the foreign trade development department of the city's commerce bureau.
