NANJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 742 Europe-bound cargo trains departed from east China's Jiangsu Province in the first half of this year, up 52.9 percent from a year ago, the provincial department of transportation said Thursday.

Exports via air and sea from the province have been affected since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, and Jiangsu, a major producer of epidemic prevention supplies in China, has acted quickly by launching more cargo trains and shortening clearance procedures to increase shipment efficiency.

The China-Europe freight train service has become an important channel to stabilize foreign trade in Jiangsu and deliver epidemic prevention materials to Europe and Central Asia, according to the department.

In the first quarter, 340 such trains were launched from Jiangsu, up 59.3 percent year on year.
