Kitchen appliance industry in China saw its sales value jump 9.9 percent year on year to 35.6 billion yuan in the first half of this year, a rather high rate compared with a 4 percent year-on-year growth to 767.5 billion yuan for the sales of the whole household appliance industry in the same period.
The data came from China Market Monitor Co., Ltd (CMM), a research institute focusing on household appliances in China.
According to Jia Dongsheng, chief executive of CMM, the growth in kitchen appliance sales slowed down in the first half of this year compared with a 12.1 percent increase in the same period of last year.
Meanwhile, competition among kitchen appliance brands was fiercer in the first half year, with the sales of range hood brands decreasing 10 percent year on year and that of gas cooker brands down 16 percent year on year.
Main E-commerce platforms began to refuse cottage brands from the beginning of this year which accelerated their elimination in the kitchen appliance market.
Development of kitchen appliance market in China is expected to slow down further in the future.
Large household appliance brands will surge into rural markets and the concentration ratio of brands will rise further, according to Cai Ying, a researcher at the State Information Center.
