United Airlines planned to begin a seasonal nonstop service linking Xi'an and San Francisco from May 10 to Oct. 29 next year.

The route will use Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners for three-times-weekly service. If approved, this will be the first trans-Pacific service from Xi'an to be operated by any airline.

"We are excited by the prospect of using the game-changing 787 to make Xi'an a new trans-Pacific gateway for China," said Jim Compton, United Airlines's vice chairman and chief revenue officer.

Subject to government approval, flight UA852 will depart Xi'an at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arrive at San Francisco at 7:35 a.m. the same day.

The return flight, UA853, will depart San Francisco at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and arrive in Xi'an at 5:30 p.m. the following day (all times local).

The flight will take approximately 12 hours, 5 minutes eastbound and 13 hours, 5 minutes westbound.
