Zhengzhou Air Harbor received the first flight of iced fresh beef from Australia on Monday, marking the start of use of China's first inland port for meat imports.

Quarantine work and customs clearance on the imported beef will be carried out in Zhengzhou, capital city of central China's Henan province, or Luohe, a central-southern Henan city where China's biggest meat processing mill Shuanghui Group is located.

In the past, imported meat for Henan had to be cleared in coastal ports like Shanghai, Qingdao and Tianjin, causing higher logistics costs and longer transit time. Firms in Henan have made plans to import meat from 23 countries and regions directly to the Zhengzhou Air Harbor.
