Chinese privately-run auto parts firm Wanxiang Group said Thursday its Karma auto division would develop luxury hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles together with BMW.

As agreed, BMW will offer its latest power system products to Karma, including engines, high-power battery charging systems and various types of auto parts for hybrid and pure electric vehicles. Karma plans to launch a flagship luxury hybrid model in 2016, equipped with auto parts from BMW.

Wanxiang bought electric car maker Fisker Automotive from bankruptcy in February 2014. Fisker once dubbed its Karma model the "world's first high performance electric luxury vehicle".
