China has drafted its first air purifier evaluation standard, which is expected to come into force in 2016.
The draft standard proposes specific environmental protection requirements on product design, production process, usage and recycling on the basis of the new national standard issued in September. Xi Junqing, deputy director of the environmental development center under the Ministry of Environmental Protection, noted that as there were various kinds of air purifiers in domestic market, the real effect of some air purifiers did not assort with what were advertised, which dealt a heavy blow to consumers' confidence.
Though a new national standard had been issued in September, it failed to make compulsory requirement on purification function and removal rate of hazardous substance. The evaluation standard would make up for the deficiency, said Xi.
