Reduction of corn planting area is a major point in China's new round of grain structural adjustment, www.eo-china.com.cn reported on Thursday quoting an official with the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) as saying.
The adjustment will be mainly made in non-advantageous areas where corn productivity is relatively low, said Pan Wenbo, deputy head of Planting Management Department of the MOA. Pan predicted that China's corn market demand would see rigid growth. In the light of this, corn production in northeast China's major growing areas should be stabilized.
According to Pan, the MOA has formed the general idea for the new round of agricultural restructuring and will establish the agricultural pattern coordinating staple grains, cash crops and feed crops and also combining planting and breeding.
