The Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company (BAIC) will take part for the first time in CarShow Mapfre 2016, which opened Friday in Mexico City.

The three-day event will showcase the latest models from some 20 of the world's top automotive brands, such as Lamborghini, Ford and BAIC, which makes a range of passenger vehicles, including Hyundai and Mercedes-branded cars through joint ventures.

Visitors to the show "will be able to enjoy a variety of activities, such as test driving different cars in a controlled environment," the head of CarShow Mapfre, Jose Ramon Zavala, told Xinhua.

"It will feature the leading car brands, among them BAIC, of course, many related events, and an exhibition of modified racing cars, which will bring Shelby cars down from the United States," said Zavala, referring to Shelby Mustangs.

This third edition of the car show will differ from the previous ones with a "big welcome" to BAIC, which will invite visitors to "experience its cars in the test drive zones and 4x4 track, which are going to be offered at the event for the first time," said Zavala.

"Carmakers hope to see people get in their vehicles, experience them, feel how they drive, and own them," he added.

The show will include virtual reality components, a special area for children, videogames and a kid's track.

Zavala, who estimates the event will draw about 25,000 visitors, said the show was steadily gaining name recognition, and "what better way to do that than by including more major brands, like BAIC."

The Nov. 25-27 car show will be inaugurated Thursday night at Mexico City's Hipodromo de las Americas horse-racing track, with a special event attended by car company representatives.

BAIC was founded in 1958 and now has operations in 44 countries in southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The Chinese automaker entered Mexico's market in October. The company employs some 130,000 people worldwide, and generates more than 50 billion U.S. dollars in revenue each year.
