In the first half of the year, the output value of China's recreational fishing industry reached 27.57 billion yuan (about 4.06 billion U.S. dollars), up 33.15 percent year on year, official data showed Friday.

Recreational fishing, key to China's fishery industry transformation and upgrading, has become important for more and more local governments to implement the rural revitalization strategy, according to an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

In 2017, the output value of China's recreational fishery sector hit 70.8 billion yuan, up 235.35 percent on 2010, according to the ministry. A total of 220 million people experienced recreational fishing last year, 100 million more than in 2015.

The official attributed the boom to increased support from local government, ranging from financial input, tax preference and financial subsidies.
