BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Railways trips in China surged on Saturday, the last day of the four-day May Day holiday, data from the national railway operator showed.
A total of 16.67 million railway passenger trips are expected to be made on Saturday, according to the China Railway Corporation (CRC).
The CRC added a total of 888 trains to handle the passenger rush on the day. Thursday and Friday saw 13.19 million and 13.31 million railway passenger trips, respectively, said the CRC.
A daily record of 17.24 million railway passenger trips were made on Wednesday, the first day of the holiday.
Railway authorities have taken various measures nationwide to ensure safe and orderly trips, including launching more automatic ticket machines and adding trains bound for tourist attractions.
