The logistics performance index, which tracks business volumes, new orders, employment, inventory turnover, and equipment utility rates in the sector, came in at 52.2 percent in August, up by 1.3 percentage points month on month.
A reading above 50 percent indicates expansion, while a reading below that reflects contraction.
The sub-index for new orders went up 1.2 percentage points from the previous month to reach 51.6 percent, indicating robust business demand.
He Hui, director of the China Logistics Information Center, said logistics activities in the eastern, central and western regions had remained dynamic, and business volume in the western region had increased rapidly amid a peak consumption season of fresh fruits.
