China has stepped up efforts to adjust fuel subsidies in the public transport sector to promote the use of new energy vehicles.

More work will be done to encourage public transport operators to buy and use new energy vehicles, according to a recent meeting held by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Ministry of Transport, the Xinhua-run cnstock.com reported on Tuesday.

Earlier, in May, the three ministries co-issued a document stipulating that the proportion rates of new energy buses among all newly-added and replaced public buses would reach 40 percent, 50 percent, 60 percent, 70 percent and 80 percent every year from 2015 to 2019 in China's major cities and provinces including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Hebei for air pollution control.
