China will resolutely stop development of inferior coal resources and strictly control their production, sales and imports so as to promote atmospheric controlling and environmental protection, said Lian Weiliang, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner.
Coal industry in China will focus on clean energy during its transformation development, develop processing and transformation of coal washing and dressing and comprehensive utilization, enhance added value of the products, and extend the industrial chain, said Lian.
As for the undeveloped high-sulfur and high-ash coal resources, the authorities will temporarily stop approval of such coal projects.
As for the already approved high-sulfur and high-ash coal projects, the construction has to be postponed. Regarding those under construction, the scale has to be reduced, while output has to be cut for those projects already coming on stream, Lian added.
During 2016-2020, China will strictly control the increment and optimize the stock in the coal industry and guide orderly exit of resource-exhaustion enterprises, outdated capacities and inferior coal capacities, according to Lian.
