China is going to inaugurate carbon-emission trading market nationwide in 2017 and would carry out some incentive policies to encourage energy saving and emission reduction, said Xie Zhenhua, China's special representative on climate change, at a press conference held by the State Council on Wednesday.
So far, there have been carbon-emission trading market established in seven provinces and cities in China, and work on pilot carbon trade goes smoothly, said Xie. To realize energy saving and emission reduction, China will have to adjust its energy structure with promotion of thermal power efficiency and faster development of non-fossil energy. China will also have to increase forest carbon sinks, noted Xie.
