Taishin International Bank Co., Ltd., one of the biggest banks in Taiwan, last Friday reached an agreement with UnionPay International, China UnionPay's wholly-owned subsidiary focusing on global expansion, to further expand the use of UnionPay bank cards in Taiwan.

Under the agreement, by the end of 2016, all the merchants of Taishin Bank network will accept UnionPay cards, and QuickPass, UnionPay's chip card-based contactless payment services, will be fully accepted by payment terminals of Taishin Bank.

According to a statement published on UnionPay's website, the deal will increase the proportion of merchants in Taiwan accepting UnionPay cards to 85 percent from current 70 percent.
