The business sentiment index (BSI) stood at 74 in June, up 1 point from the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The figure rose slightly, but it stayed at a low level amid the continued fall in export, which accounts for about half of the export-driven economy. The export kept sliding for six straight months through May.
The BSI below 100 indicates pessimists outnumbering optimists. Hit by the export fall, the BSI among manufacturers slipped 1 point over the month to 75 in June.
The BSI for exporters declined 3 points to 80 in the cited period, but the index for companies focusing on the local market was unchanged at 71.
The BSI among non-manufacturers gained 3 points to 74 in the month. The BSI among real estate developers rose sharply on the rising sale of new apartments.
