By the end of 2018, every 10,000 Chinese people had 1.65 banking outlets on average, up from 1.59 a year earlier, according to a report from the People's Bank of China (PBOC).
Bank outlets covered 96.3 percent of township-level regions nationwide, the report showed. In 70 percent of provincial regions, bank outlets covered all towns.
The coverage increased in such regions as Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province as financial services kept expanding to remote rural areas, according to the report.
On average, every 10,000 people had 7.96 ATM machines and 244.72 POS machines by the end of 2018, up 15.2 percent and 9.07 percent year on year, respectively, the PBOC said.
Some 864,900 service outlets had been established to help farmers withdraw cash, remit money or pay bills with bank cards, covering 98.23 percent of village-level administrative regions, up from 97.34 percent a year earlier, the report showed.
