Over 84 percent of Chinese regions have already started to introduce the critical illness insurance program so far, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Tuesday.
Li Zhong, spokesperson for the ministry, said at a press conference that all the 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have unveiled working plans for implementing the program.
In August, the State Council, China's cabinet, issued a circular saying that China will expand medical insurance to cover critical illnesses for all urban and rural residents before the end of 2015.
Serious illness insurance, launched in 2012 and previously only carried out on a trial basis, reimburses people with serious illnesses, such as cancer, for medical costs.
