The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) held a symposium on Tuesday to invite public comments over the draft Law on Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Many experts present at the symposium suggest Chinese regulators should change Article 21 of the law into "The government encourages and supports R&D and production of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine and shall construct standards and approval methods suitable for traditional Chinese medicine".
In the meantime, China should protect important traditional processing technologies and techniques to foster production of Chinese patent drugs and application of modern science and technologies in developing Chinese patent drugs, the experts suggest.
