Forty-one of the 57 locally transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 14 in Liaoning Province, and two in Jilin Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.
Two new imported cases were reported in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Sunday, while Fujian and Sichuan provinces each saw one new imported case.
No deaths related to the disease or new suspected COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday.
Ten COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said.
By the end of Sunday, a total of 2,049 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 1,969 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 80 remained hospitalized, with two in serious conditions. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.
As of Sunday, the overall confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 83,891, including 339 patients who were still being treated, with 21 in severe conditions.
Altogether 78,918 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.
There were still three suspected COVID-19 cases, it added.
According to the commission, 13,935 close contacts were still under medical observation.
Also on Sunday, 44 new asymptomatic cases, including one from outside the mainland, were reported, and 31 asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones.
The commission said 302 asymptomatic cases, including 88 from outside of the mainland, were still under medical observation.
By Sunday, 2,633 confirmed cases, including 18 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 458, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.
A total of 1,495 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 440 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
