Jiangsu's shipbuilding industry sees drop in new orders

East China's Jiangsu province saw a surge of over 50 percent in shipbuilding output but a fall in new orders in the first three quarters. In the first nine months, accomplished shipbuilding output in Jiangsu came to 226 vessels or 12.271 million deadweight tonnes (DWT), a rise of 55.4 percent year on year.

About 93.1 percent of the completed vessels were exported to overseas markets. Meanwhile, shipbuilding enterprises in Jiangsu received new orders of 123 vessels or 5.017 million DWT during the first three quarters, down 72.4 percent from the same period last year.

By the end of September, shipbuilding enterprises in Jiangsu held orders of 1,001 vessels or 60.088 million DWT, a decline of 14.6 percent year on year. Of these orders, 95.7 percent are from overseas markets.
