China unveils technology roadmap for marine engineering equipment

China recently unveiled a technology roadmap which sets development goals of key technology fields including the marine engineering equipment and high-tech shipbuilding.

According to the roadmap, marine engineering and high-tech shipbuilding industry aims to become an influential power in building marine engineering equipment and high-tech ships by 2025. Demands for the marine engineering equipment and high-tech ships are expected to reach about 170 billion U.S. dollars by 2020 and further increase to 260 billion U.S. dollars by 2025, estimated by the authorities.

The technology roadmap specified the important products to be developed in the coming ten years, including ocean space integrated stereo observation system, marine oil and gas resource development equipment, deep-sea fishing ship, and large luxury cruise, and key components such as undersea production control system, undersea special equipment, and LNG fuel supply system for ships.

Meanwhile, the country will increase investments in R&D on marine engineering equipment and high-tech shipbuilding and carry out applied research on important equipment and key systems, and digital, networking and intelligent technology, according to the roadmap.

On China's A-share market, listed companies including Asia Star Anchor Chain (601890.SH) and China CSSC Holdings Limited (600150.SH) are engaged in marine engineering equipment business.
