Provincial and municipal broadcast and TV networks of Guangdong, Chongqing, Guizhou and Gansu are jointly inviting bids for LTE equipment, the telecom news portal c114.net reported on Tuesday.

According to the bidding document, the bidders shall have supplied similar products to China's three basic telecom operators for 4G network construction in recent three years. The equipment for bidding is expected to satisfy the tenderees' demands for building a wireless bilateral network, which is also called as wireless broadcast and TV broadband data network and is part of a converged data network that China's broadcast and TV industry plans to create.

The converged network will also involve a cable TV network, a wireless broadcast network and a satellite broadcast network. Industry insiders believe the move of broadcast and TV networks will influence the plan of China's telecom industry to obtain the 700MHz frequency band.

The frequency band is expected to help China's telecom giants lower network construction costs and expand network coverage. By now, the basic telecom operators have launched TD-LTE network tests on 700MHz in several provinces.
