China Textile Commerce Association (CTCA) has unveiled the first industry standard for producing masks effective in protecting people from harmful PM2.5 (particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers used to measure air quality), reported China National Radio Monday.
In recent years, China's widespread urban air pollution has made masks a necessity for people to do outdoor activities but unfortunately, there is no production standard for anti-PM2.5 masks at present. This has given rise to prevalence of anti-PM2.5 masks of poor quality which will cause uncomfortable physical reactions such as headache after over four-hour wearing.
According to the newborn standard, these requirements have been contained together with ones for microorganism, pH, which are not even stated in present standard for industrial anti-smog masks, and carcinogenic aromatic ammonia, of which the standard requires no testable content.
