BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sales of heavy trucks in China continued an expansion streak in December 2020 to hit a year-on-year record high, industry data showed.

An estimated total of 114,000 heavy trucks were sold last month, up 24 percent year on year, according to auto industry information service provider cvworld.cn.

The figure broke a record set in December 2019 when over 92,200 trucks were sold.

The annual sales of heavy trucks amounted to around 1.62 million units in 2020, surging 38 percent from 2019, reaching a record high worldwide.

China's annual sales of heavy trucks are expected to account for about 70 percent of the world's total, according to cvworld.cn.

Last year's robust heavy truck sales were driven by several factors, including post-COVID-19 demand rebounds, phasing out of vehicles of lower national emission standard and the boom of infrastructure construction.
