S.Korea's imported car sale posts double-digit growth in February

SEOUL, March 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales posted a double-digit growth last month due to strong demand for German luxury models, industry data showed Thursday.

The number of foreign luxury vehicles sold here was 22,290 in February, up 33.3 percent from a year ago, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

German automaker Mercedes-Benz ranked first in terms of domestic car sale with 5,707 units last month.

It was followed by the German carmaker BMW with a sale of 5,660 units, Audi with 2,362 units, and Volkswagen with 1,783 units, and Volvo with 1,202 units respectively.

The sale of European brands surged 47.4 percent over the year to 19,098 units in February, but the sale of Japanese and Unites States models slumped 20.6 percent and 11.2 percent respectively.

The imported gasoline car sale advanced 15.9 percent, but the diesel vehicle sale slipped 10.5 percent. The number of imported electric vehicles sold here was 190 in February, up 0.5 percent from a year ago.
